Know who your Project / Programme Sponsor is!

It’s always best to know who the Project/ Programme Sponsor is…. and how much power and influence this person has!

A Lesson working with your Programme Director

A PMO, a Project Manager, and the Programme Director are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, “I’ll give each of you just one wish” “Me first! Me first!” says the PMO, “I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.” Poof! She’s gone. “Me next! Me next!” says the Project Manager. “I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.” Poof! He’s gone. “OK, you’re up,” the Genie says to the Programme Director. The Programme Director says, “I want those two back in the office after lunch.”

…Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

Monty Python and the Project Managers

I’m a big Monty Python fan, and well, comedy in general (anything that makes me laugh), I was once shown this clip with the 100 metres dask in different directions and thought, this was what a department of project managers do, if there is no strategic direction, or no lifecycle process.
