At the dawn of time there was project management. Soon after, project managers found they needed support and created the project support office. Years went by and programme management gave birth to the Programme Management Office (PMO). More recently portfolio management has hit the headlines, and the PMO is now evolving into the portfolio office.
In this presentation, Ralf Finchett jnr will present how the PMO has evolved over the years, and the varying skill sets and capabilities required for the varying levels of PMO’s, and what the new regeneration of portfolio management means for the PMO.
Like all intelligent life, the PMO is no different and most PMO’s use tools (software) in some way shape or form to carry out tasks. The variety of tools required to run large and complex portfolio’s are now big business, and the presentation gives an insight to the links between an organisations project and portfolio maturity and capability, and the success of the tools being used.
Ralf will illustrate the presentation using examples and stories from his own experience and from some early results of research he is conducting into portfolio software.
